2 more days...

... until the ULTOT ! I am really looking forward to an epic Saturday where we are going to cover a total of 7,250 vertical feet . 2,800 of those on the bike and the other 4,450 we get to tackle by foot. The acronym stands for U tah L ake to the T op O f T imp Timp is short for Mount Timpanogos * which is Utah Valley's highest peak at 11,750 feet. I am not a big fan of numbers but this time I wanted to know what's in store for us... On Saturday, we get to dive in Utah lake at 6 am and swim a mile. Then we jump on our bikes , ride to the canyon, and climb the Alpine loop up to Timpooneke trailhead. We put on our running shoes and up, up, up we run/walk/creep to the top ! That is the plan, at least. It gets even better. This is not a race. Just a fun adventure put on by the Timp Tri Club . And, my favorite training buddy, Jen , is going to come with us! This might be our last epic training day together for a while. I am really excited to spend some quality time with her in the m

My Awesome Coaches

After wrecking my brain about how to organize my thoughts on coaches , coaching , being coached , etc., I have realized that one post is not going to cut it. So today I just want to introduce my coaches (whom most of you know already) Heath and Mahogani Thurston . Mahogani competing in the Women's Tri I know. I am lucky. I don't just have one coach but two ! Believe me, that is a good thing. Mahogani is one tough lady, believe me! I actually met Mahogani way back in 1998/99. I was an exchange student at Provo High School and part of the swim team . (I also did track and cross-country.) Mahogani happened to be the assistant swim coach . Honestly, I don't have many memories of my time on the swim team. Cross-country was way more fun and exciting! But I do remember Mahogani... (If I remember right, she met Heath, who was also helping to coach some high school team, during one of our swim meets that year.) Ɯberswimmer Heath ready to tear up the water The first memory I hav

Scofield Kids Race

While you are waiting for my Scofield Race Report *, you can read (my son) Noah's here . *Ok. I know no one is waiting for it, really. But let's just pretend...

Quelle Challenge Roth '07

Looks like I am just a little nervous Yes. I have competed in an iron-distance triathlon. No. I am not an "Ironman". And I don't care. Because the Quelle Challenge Roth in Germany is an amazing and super fun event! With Ironman St. George in "town" earlier this year and the Quelle Challenge just last Sunday, I have definitely done my share of reminiscing about Roth '07. After realizing that I did not yet have a blog back then, I dug up the email and pictures I sent out after the race. I wanted to share my race experience with you here. I could not help but make some comments (in yellow). I don't even know where to start or what to say but I decided to keep it short. As most of you know, the preparations went mostly well (thanks to the many hours of babysitting by Jen, Mandy, Janelle, and Becky) until a few weeks before the race, when I got sick , the weather got bad , and my bike seat was left in Provo. Luckily, on race d

Freedom Run

I decided to celebrate my freedom by running the Freedom Run 10k . Not exactly my favorite kind of race but definitely one to make me feel alive and happy . For this girl endorphins = happiness . I know. I know. It's not everlasting happiness. But I will take it. The more happiness, the better . Right? My motto for this race: "A lot of people race to see who is fastest . ` I race to see who has the most guts ." -Steve Prefontaine It's time for me to show some guts in racing and training. Time to get out of the grey zone and push myself hard. Time to really hurt and put it all on the line. I wanted to run sub 40 minutes. That is a 6:25 pace. That is fast for me. The plan was to start out fast and try to hold it. If I was going to die at the end, so be it. Fortunately, I had some great company for the Sufferfest . It went something like this: I convinced Jen . Jen convinced Carlee . Carlee convinced Heather . Here we are ready to race We also have matchi
