Boise 70.3 Recap

The preparations for Boise went everything but smooth. I showed up at my massage therapist at the wrong time, spent way too much time dealing with borrowed race wheels (that Coach was trying to talk me into) only to decide that I was not going to use them, left my race bag at home (the boys were getting ready to go camping and there was stuff everywhere), and I started my period. I was stressed ! But I was hoping that the more things that would go wrong before the race, the smoother the race itself. I got to hang out with Coach M and HT (Coach Heath Thurston) all weekend long. What a treat! Coach M is just the cutest girl you will ever meet and HT is a tease and a jokester. It is a good combination. We drove up to Boise Thursday with our friend Marci and we all stayed at Rob’s house. In one room. Good times. Thursday consisted of pre-race meeting, packet pick-up, bike drop-off, fabulous and fun dinner with the HT training group , and getting 3 transition bags ready. That took all d

Videos instead of Race Report

I am back. In Flagstaff . Fun is over. I guess I'd better get used to it. Really, it is not so bad. I just really love hanging out with family, friends, and the Utah triathlon crowd. Good times . I was hoping to be able to start feeling more at home here by competing in the (only) local sprint triathlon. Then I just found out that the entry fee is $100 . What in the world??? Assuming that I finish the race somewhere close to 70 minutes, I am paying about $1.50 per minute of racing. Pathetic ! So much for that idea... I know. You are (or are not) impatiently waiting for my very detailed Boise 70.3 report. And a Park City report? Man. I was racing too much the last few weeks. Well, I will have to disappoint you. I have been busy packing, traveling, camping, more traveling, unpacking. Pretty much the minute we got here, Karl left with the youth of our church to go on a Pioneer Trek . The lucky guy gets to hike and camp for 4 days while I am trying to entertain the kids. Funny enough

Alpine Loop - Family Bonding

Sorry. No time for a race report. Bags are packed and I have 5 minutes until we are off to race #3 in 3 weeks. That is definitely not enough time to tell you about my Boise race. I have had plenty of fun this week. Lots of family time. 2 trail runs in Rock Canyon. Wednesday was the perfect day to ride the Alpine Loop . Warm, sunny, absolutely beautiful, great company, and - the best part - it is still closed to traffic! I had already recruited my good friends Leslie and Jen for the ride when my nephew told me that he was doing a century ride in a few weeks. So I invited him along as well. The more, the merrier. Colin recently returned from his mission in Korea and I have definitely not spent enough (or any, really) quality time with him. Of course, I had to make fun of his baggy basketball shorts. (He claims that he wore bike shorts underneath.) But other than that we had some great family bonding . Thanks for tagging along with your old aunt* and her lady friends, Colin! Alright

Boise 70.3 Stats

I am super happy to announce that Boise 70.3 was a success ! I reached my goal of qualifying for the 70.3 World Championships in Las Vegas. I was also able to win my age group and come in as the 2nd female amateur. This is so exciting for me! I knew that, if everything came together on race day, I would have a pretty good chance of qualifying. But I honestly never thought I would win my age group, let alone come so close to being the top amateur. I loved having so many friends and great fellow athletes from Utah around. Thanks for making this a very special and super fun weekend! You will all be dearly missed when I go back to AZ next week. I will definitely fill you in with all the details later this week. For now, I am back to being a mom and wife. Time to take the kids to the zoo, go to the dentist, hang out with cousins at the park, and run errands on Grandpa's old Huffy. Good times! Recovery? Not today! Hopefully tomorrow...

Salem Spring Triathlon

Finally! The day of my favorite sprint triathlon had arrived! Hanging out with Missy Payne The reason I like to show up (at least) 2 hours early , is not because I need the perfect spot for my bike or because I have a 120-minute pre-race routine. It is so I can chat with as many old and new friends and fellow athletes for as long as possible. That really is my favorite part of racing. Salem just feels like a big triathlon reunion centered around a fast little rac e. Chatting with Jeanette Schellenberg I used to get nervous when the fast girls would show up. Now I am loving it. The more competition - the more fun. We all know each other pretty well and enjoy catching up while getting ready and warming up. There is no trash talking and no bad intentions. Just a bunch of friends doing what they love. Warm-up accelerations with Ammie Black The 2 hours go by way to fast and I always find myself scrambling around at the last minute. This time, I did manage to get in a little warm-up sw

Boise 70.3 Preparations

Hey Leslie! Will I get to race with you at all this year? I miss you! I really need to write my Salem Race Report . Really - as in - I promised the Race Directors it would be up Sunday or Monday and today is Wednesday. Oops. How did that happen? I could really use an extra day or 2 to be ready (to leave) for Boise. However, we are departing tomorrow at 3 pm and I could not be more excited. Are you wondering why I am not writing my Race Report right now? Well, I don't have the patience to look for pictures and form decent sentences right now. I just wasted an hour biking to and from and being at my massage therapist, only to realize that I had the time wrong . Argh. So annoying. Nothing makes me more upset than other people wasting my time or me wasting my own time. I also really need that massage . My body has not been cooperating quite as well this season as it has in the past. ... Well... Let's see... It is now 9pm . I still have not written the race report, or showered, or
