Race Report: THE UTAH HALF 2013

Utah Lake can indeed look pretty What does it take to get a girl (that hates nothing more than sitting in the car) to road trip  (by herself) for 18 hours over a long weekend?  part of the swim course A combination of the following:  1. A great race ! Have I mentioned how much I love racing in Utah with all of my friends? Although we have been in Flagstaff, AZ for 3 years now, any race in Utah still feels like a hometown race to me! Being friends with the race directors, volunteers, and most of the other racers just makes everything so much more fun!  2. Prize money ! We all know that this is a ridiculously expensive sport and little by little my gear is starting to fall apart, so I couldn't pass up the opportunity to maybe earn enough to cover (more than just) gas for this little extravaganza. Unless, of course, the super speedy girls show up... But it was a win-win situation. Either I would take some cash home with me or I would truly be challenge

Race Report: MOUNTAIN MAN HALF-IRON

Goal #1: Win the darn thing.  Goal accomplished! I was able to live up to my bib number and win this race for the third time in a row.   Even after throwing caution into the wind on the last two miles of yesterday's half marathon ... Usually I love me some good competition that kicks my butt. But today I was hoping to have a big enough lead after the bike that I could just run my own pace and not worry about other girls breathing down my neck.  Goal #2: Finish under 5 hours .  Barely made it. My time was 4:58:14. A minute or so slower than in 2011 and 3 minutes faster than last year. Definitely not a breakthrough of any sort but nothing wrong with consistency . (If you ask me, that is. If you ask my Coach she would tell you otherwise.) I wasn't wearing a watch that showed total time so I had no idea. Having the boys leap frog me in the car, cheer for me, and spray me with their water guns over the last (incredibly long and lonely) 5 miles certainly he

Race Report: BBBS TRAIL HALF MARATHON

(Wow. It's been way too long . Fortunately, no news on here is usually good news and means I am just having too much fun to sit down and write about it. Most of the fun was had with the kids while they were out of school. There is never a dull moment and usually not enough brain cells left at the end of a summer day to write a somewhat coherent blog post. But the kids are back in school (Kindergarten and 2nd grade) and I have no more excuses... I am looking forward to writing more than just race reports and getting some of those posts I 'composed' while running and biking on paper.)  view on the trail half marathon The third Feat of Fortitude is in the books and it all went according to plan! Well, mostly. Which is about all one can hope for. While I have written two separate race reports in the past (2011  here and here  and 2012 here and here ), I am going to just write one this time. In an attempt to keep it short and not bore you with too many details.
