Top 20

As I was trying to finally update my blog and figuring out where to start, I got an email from USAT. It reads:

Congratulations! As a finisher in the Top 20 of your age group in the 2010 USA Triathlon final Rankings, I want to take this opportunity to congratulate you for a terrific 2010 triathlon season! As you may or may not know, this Top 20 finishing place has earned you a right to potentially be on Team USA and compete in the 2011 ITU Olympic distance Triathlon World Championships in Beijing, China.

I actually received 2 emails. The second one says the pretty much the same thing. Just swap Olympic for Sprint.

So. Here are my thoughts:

Pretty cool. Top 20. Not bad. Do I care exactly where in the top 20 I am? Not really. I won't research it. Karl can if he wants to. Does that mean I am also All American? One year I was and they sent me some certificate in the mail. Big deal. Is that what I am paying for? I hope not. I have issues with USAT, to say the least. That reminds me: Time to renew my membership. Argh.

Beijing? Really? Are you kidding me? Who can afford to fly themselves and their bikes to Beijing? Oh. I forget. I happen to have chosen one of the most expensive sports as my hobby. Which means that most of its participants are pretty well off. Really well off, actually. My fault. Which also means that the age-group athletes participating in the World Championships are not necessarily the fastest ones but the richest ones.

Now that I think about it, it is probably like that in most sports. It bugs me. Why does this world have to be ruled by money? I wish we could just get rid off money.

I don't much agree with USAT but I have to admit that 2010 was indeed a terrific season! 2011 will be very different but hopefully equally fun!

Happy training!

Why race lots of races with friends in beautiful mountainous terrain in the states when with more money and hassle you could race once with nobody you know in a big city that's super polluted? ha. Nice work! Here's to a great 2011 season!

Awesome Sarah! You're always an inspiration. Glad to see it pays off with letters and offers for impossible trips. It'd be cooler if they gave you a free year membership. Anyway, congrats on being awesome!

Amen and amen Sarah! I was hoping to see where I finished up as well, but wouldn't you know it, you have to be a member clear through Dec 31 2010, not just through the races you raced. UHG. All. About. Money
