Salem Spring Tri

Leslie, me, Jeanette

I actually got some pictures for this post!
I am really excited!
Huge thanks to Ammie's husband, Chris,
for taking amazing pictures and
sharing them with us!

Hanging out with Ammie and Erin pre-race.
I love these girls!

I love, love, love this race!
Definitely my favorite sprint triathlon in Utah.
I had won this race 4 times before and
I really wanted to win again.
Usually (believe it or not), I like to win but it is no big deal if I don't.
This time was different.
I was ready to dig deep and really hurt
trying to get to the finish before all my fast lady friends.

Swim 0:12:18

I guess the plan was to lead from start to finish.
I knew I needed to open up a little gap in the swim.
Because these ladies can bike and run fast!
So I was happy to hear Heath announce
that I was the first girl out of the water.
I also heard him announce Leslie and Jeanette while I was still in T1.
The race was on!

Bike 0:32:38

I was worried about this rather big slit
in my back tire that I discovered race morning.
But then I decided to let it go.
No time for worries.

I pushed about as hard as I could.
Whenever my mind started to wander,
I got it right back on track.
No time for daydreaming.

T2 0:00:47

I was pretty excited to make it back into T2
right behind some of the 'big guys':
Casey, David, and Grant.
Maybe a little too excited.
As I stepped off my bike, I slipped,
and fell right on my bum.
In front of quite a big crowd.
Sweet.

T2 was a mess, to say the least.
I realize that we are all trying to go as fast as possible
but being reckless with other people's gear is taking it a little too far.
I am considering racking my bike with the age groupers next time.
(If I sound mad, it's because I am.)

Run 0:20:30

I made it out of transition
right behind my awesome teammate, Grant,
and managed to stay there throughout the run.
(He is usually a much faster runner than I am
but was having some troubles.)

I turned around a few times to see where my competition was
but, luckily, never saw anyone.
I was happy.
I could have gone (a little) faster
but I really did not want to.

Finish 1:05:52

Thank you, Travis, for such a fun
award ceremony.
After harassing Travis to hurry up,
we sure took our sweet time on the podium...

Thank you, ladies, for a great race!

Congratulations to all my friends at the race.
Especially Carlee and Heather who did awesome!
Huge thanks to Emily and Jen for watching the boys and cheering.

After the race we hurried up the canyon
to see Karl and friends finish the Squaw Peak 50.
(A 50 mile trail run in the mountains.)
Karl had a fantastic race and took 6th overall
in a time of 9 hours 41 minutes.
Way to rock it, Karl!
(I am trying to talk him into writing a race report on here.)

Then celebrated at CPK and Coldstone with no regrets!

Well I guess I can be pleased to have been within a minute of you on a race you "really" wanted to win :)
You're a stud Sarah, you never cease to amaze me with how fast and strong you are. Great win my friend!

Congrats to Karl too!

Camping Trip - Big Sur - CA

Andrew Molera State Park - our paradise for a week After it became clear that we would most likely be in Utah all summer, I got a bit antsy and really wanted to go on a family vacation. We went camping in Moab in March and it was great fun. Since I am not training or racing, we might as well go on a road trip to California and camp by the beach for a while! Easier said than done because, of course, we were way too late to get any decent spot anywhere along the coast. Everything bookable was booked. We did a bunch of research and found a little campground in Andrew Molera State Park  that fit our (very small) budget and was first-come first-served. Perfect! So we mapped out a plan, loaded up the car, and took off for 10 days!  Not exactly traveling lightly. That road bike (mine) was solely for commuting purposes.  Traveling from Provo up to Salt Lake City and then west on I-80, our first stop was Donner Lake up by Lake Tahoe/Truckee. I love Lake Tah...

I am so lucky

I feel the need to write. My thoughts are all jumbled. Can I make sense of them on paper? Writin g gives me perspective and makes it easier to let go. Last weekend I was very frustrated, mad, self-centered, unhappy , wallowing in self-pity. This weekend I was more balanced, a little more patient, trying to be less selfish, happy . How did it happen? I have had to deal with myself for almost 30 years now and, luckily, have figured out a few things on the way. Like how to feel at peace with myself , my family , my life . It shouldn't be complicated to be happy in my circumstances. I realize that. But sometimes it still is. Sometimes being a mom and wife doesn't come easy to me. Sometimes I think everyone would be better off if I wasn't a mom and wife. Sometimes I wish it was easier to just take off and do nothing but swimbikeruneatsleep for a week or two. It's not helping that my German teammates are doing just that. Right now. On a beautiful island. In the warm...

Freedom Run

I decided to celebrate my freedom by running the Freedom Run 10k . Not exactly my favorite kind of race but definitely one to make me feel alive and happy . For this girl endorphins = happiness . I know. I know. It's not everlasting happiness. But I will take it. The more happiness, the better . Right? My motto for this race: "A lot of people race to see who is fastest . ` I race to see who has the most guts ." -Steve Prefontaine It's time for me to show some guts in racing and training. Time to get out of the grey zone and push myself hard. Time to really hurt and put it all on the line. I wanted to run sub 40 minutes. That is a 6:25 pace. That is fast for me. The plan was to start out fast and try to hold it. If I was going to die at the end, so be it. Fortunately, I had some great company for the Sufferfest . It went something like this: I convinced Jen . Jen convinced Carlee . Carlee convinced Heather . Here we are ready to race We also have matchi...
